AFROFUTURE WORLD-BUILDS

Voyage into a future where Black joy and peace reign free. Join us in building a world for the afrofuture.

Our world-building process incorporates the Dinkinesh Method. Founded on the principles of abundance and harmony, the Dinkinesh Method is a framework for creating a new reality for Black bodies. The method helps shape new worlds that aren't plagued by anti-Blackness and institutional racism. Oppressive forces of today no longer hold power in the futures we build. The collective vision of communities working to maintain unity and joy guides our narratives.

Led by afrofuture guide Ingrid LaFleur, we begin our three-hour journey with a prompt. We reflect on, discuss, and play with it until the co-creation of a world develops. Through this speculative exploration, we identify elements that can be implemented in our lives. With each world-building session, you learn more about Afrofuturism in practice and futures research methods, as well as deepen your awareness of what it means to create Black-centered futures. The purpose of each world-build is to look beyond into the future for solutions for today.

The world-builds experience is broken down into four phases:

Phase One: Grounding

We provide an outline of how to prepare for the world-building session.

Phase Two: The Investigation

Together, we analyze systems of harm, challenge dominant narratives, and explore innovations that will inform our new worlds.

Phase Three: The Build

A day in the life story is co-created and shared with visuals.

Phase Four: Implementation

After sharing our new worlds, we highlight "doable" elements and define steps to alter our destiny towards that vision.

Learning outcomes:

  • An introduction to the basics of futures research

  • Understanding of Afrofuturism

  • A framework of how to integrate afrofuture consciousness into everyday life

Afrofuture world-builds center Black dreams, desires, tragedies, and traumas. We build with this in mind. Join us on the afrofuture adventure!

A Romantic Government

Last year, Ingrid gave a speech about what a romantic government would look like. We thought this would be a wonderful theme to focus on for our second world-build. Join us for a day filled with exciting activities and engaging discussions, where we will co-create a world centered on government systems that serve the people with love, empathy, and a touch of romance.
